Last month AMA FIU hosted a networking event for FIU students to meet with South Florida Professionals and other AMA Members of Florida. The guest speaker was Michael Kappit, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Bloomin’ Brands. Bloomin’ Brands is the owner of some of our favorite restaurants like Outback Steakhouse, Bonefiish Grill, and Carrabba’s Italian Grill.
At the event FIU students had the opportunity to hear more about the marketing industry, what they can expect from their career, and how they can succeed. Industry professionals were open to giving their advice and insight to students, and gave them the opportunity to learn about different companies, internships, and jobs after graduation.
After the event we had the opportunity to interview our guest speaker Michael Kappit and ask him about the event, what his thoughts about FIU were, and for a final word of advice for driven students that are working hard to succeed in the business world.
He highlighted how FIU is much “bigger” and “different” from the last time he visited. Being in an international university in Miami, we also wanted to ask for his opinion on how students have an opportunity in international business and marketing. He stated that Miami is “a great place to be” and that there are “opportunities right in this town.” And lastly, his final words of advice for students are short and sweet. He points out that there are “no shortcuts,” just “a lot of hard work.” He described that when he first started he knew that he was “going to have to do all the things [he] didn’t want to do, [in order] to do everything [he] wanted to do,” which we believe is something that every college student can relate to. Between switching majors, picking minors, and searching for internships, we may have to go through a few jobs before we can finally reach our “dream job.”
To keep up with internships, jobs, and other career opportunities remember to stay updated through our blog, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
